Children's stories

The following are quotes from three children whose lives have been changed by the influence of the Heart of a Child Foundation.

"I started to beg in the buses and to work in the markets in order to survive. I got sick from tuberculosis. After all these problems, with God's help the Heart of a Child Foundation found me and began to care for me. Dana took me to Cudalbi where I took a course to learn how to drive tractors and work on a farm. The foundation brought in one of my brothers from the street and another two from orphanages. We were united – together again after seven years. More than anything I wish we could buy a house where I could bring my brothers and we could live together.”

A.D. is now 24 years old. For the past three years he has worked as an educational instructor at the "Andiana” kindergarten in Cudalbi serving children with special needs. Each summer he participates as a volunteer at the camps organized by Heart of a Child for underprivileged children. With the kind help of the SERA Romania Foundation, a few years ago Heart of a Child helped A.D. to fulfill his dream of buying a house for him and his brothers.

"I began a new chapter in my life once I was brought into the house belonging to the foundation. A chapter full of hope and one that offered the comfort of knowing who would care for me tomorrow. There are many children that would like to be able to wake up, go to school, do their homework, and know they have a place to play, food to eat and a warm bed to sleep in at night. As thanks for the blessings I have received I can only offer to you my promise to try to be more kind, more obedient and to learn better as I grow up.”

M.C. is now 17 years old. He and his younger sister have lived in a family-home sponsored by the Heart of a Child Foundation for the past five years.

"I was only 5 years old when I was abandoned by my parents in one of the town's orphanages … yet, one day, a sunrise brightened my soul and at nine years old I had the chance to be part of a true family. I still live with my new family, one that has given me the affection and care that I needed so badly.”

F.L. is now 19 years old. She is in the 9th grade at high school and dreams of studying at university. The foster family she lives has become her "true family” and she described the relationship between her and her parents and siblings as a "model for any family in Romania.”
